Finnair opens direct route from Trondheim
“We are very pleased to be able to launch the new route, and we have great faith that this will be met by significant interest in the market. The route may easily be combined with Finnair’s network to and from Asia, and we expect that it will provide positive ripple effects for business and tourism in our region,” says airport director Marit Helene Stigen at Trondheim Airport.
Visit Trondheim is also very pleased by the news.
“We have been hoping to get this direct flight to Helsinki and thus open up an Asian corridor from Trondheim. This means a lot for incoming visitors, but it is also good to have interesting destinations to offer people in the region. At the same time, it is important for the research institutions in the city, such as NTNU, Sintef and Nordic Semiconductor, and also opens up for exports to Asia for the fish farming industry,” says Tanja Holmen, Tourism Director with Visit Trondheim.
Winter tourism on the increase
In June Finnair will also step up the frequency between Tromsø and Helsinki from one weekly departure to three weekly departures. This route will be served by Widerøe’s new Embraer E190-E2 aircraft.
“Winter tourism is increasing every year, and we see that more and more tourists from Asia want to visit us for world class nature experiences,” says airport director Ivar Helsing Schrøen at Tromsø Airport.
“The fact that Finnair in partnership with Widerøe are increasing the frequency between Tromsø and Helsinki is a sign that demand is great, and we are certain that this will contribute to greater wealth creation in northern Norway.
The route between Trondheim and Helsinki will be flown by Finnair’s route partner Widerøe with a Dash 8 Q400 aircraft.
