Oslo Airport awarded best airport in Europe
4.7.2024 09:15:00 CEST | The Avinor Group | Press release
Norway's main airport has reached the top in the ranking of Europe's best airports in the 25-40 million passengers annually category at the ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards.

—This is a great honour and recognition of the work done every single day at Oslo Airport. Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE) is an organization that encompasses more than 500 European airports in 55 countries. Receiving this award is therefore highly prestigious, says Avinor’s CEO, Abraham Foss, who was present during the awards ceremony in Istanbul yesterday and received the prize on behalf of Oslo Airport.
The jury consisted of representatives from European authorities, renowned aviation consultants, and the media.
Praised for strong operational and punctuality performance
The ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards are given annually to the airports that have achieved the best results in various strategic, economic, operational, environmental, and social parameters. The award was announced with many hundreds of representatives from the European aviation industry present in Istanbul on July 3rd.
In the jury’s justification, Oslo Airports ability to deliver a strong operational and punctuality performance once again in 2023 is highlighted. Oslo Airport was Europe’s most punctual airport in 2022 and 2023, and has implemented an innovative baggage system, drone detection and autonomous snow removal. The judges also acknowledge a wide-ranging approach to meeting sustainability challenges, evident in an innovative, circular economy approach to deliver on its target of reaching zero waste by 2030.
— We are pleased and proud that Avinor’s active sustainability agenda receives this recognition. We should also not forget that Oslo Airport is among the most weather-challenged airports in the world. Being named Europe’s most punctual and best airport in the same year is a great achievement. Many deserve praise today, says Foss.
Praises the employees
The CEO emphasizes that it is thanks to the employees throughout Avinor and all staff at the country’s main airport, that Oslo Airport receives this award.
— It is thanks to the 13 000 employees at Oslo Airport, the hard work of many at Avinor, and very good partners both on the ground and in the air, that we receive this kind of recognition. I would therefore like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who works at and with Oslo Airport.
The Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård congratulates Oslo Airport with the award:
— Being named Europe’s best airport is great news for Oslo Airport. Those who work at Oslo Airport put in great efforts every day, year-round, and in all kinds of weather to ensure passengers have a good travel experience. In Norway, we are entirely dependent on aviation. Having an efficient and reliable main airport in Norway is crucial for passengers and the entire business community. I congratulate Avinor and Oslo Airport on this well-deserved award, says Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård.
The runner-up in the ACI ranking of airports with 25-40 million travelers is Athens International Airport. In 2023, there were 15 airports of this size on the list of the hundred busiest airports in Europe. Istanbul Airport won best airport over 40 million passengers.
