– Taking care of the existing infrastructure is one of the finest activities we can do on behalf of the community and for the climate. This is a milestone for system support for doing just that, better enabling us to prioritize timely and adequate maintenance – for the benefit of our customers and community, and to get the best value for money,» says Bjørn Laksforsmo, Head of Operations and Maintenance at NPRA.

On 1 December he marked the occasion of signing the contract, together with Heidi Berg, Site Manager Norway of Trimble and Director General Ingrid Dahl Hovland of the NPRA.

12 providers were initially interested in delivering a solution, 5 tendered for the contract.

Tunnels and electrical engineering

The first step the NPRA has decided to embark upon is to adapt the solution to their needs in the fields of tunnels and electrical engineering. At the same time, the solution will be configured so that it can also be used by other disciplines.

Then it may be relevant to proceed with other disciplines, with bridges as step 2 and other road objects as step 3.

The work involved in step 1 is valued at NOK 27 million. The contract as a whole has a duration of four years, with an option for six more years, and a total value, with all options included, of NOK 180 million.

Selected contractor

Trimble has extensive road-specific expertise and more than 30 years of experience in programme development of infrastructure engineering and management solutions for infrastructure in Norway and internationally, and cooperates closely with a network of professional consulting firms, including Electronova A/S.

– We have high expectations for the results on mobility, safety and sustainability we will provide from working in close cooperation with Trimble as a competent provider of asset management solutions. The asset management solution for existing infrastructure will be an important framework in the NPRA's ambition to utilize risk- and condition of assets to establish a comprehensive and consistent maintenance plan. It will significantly improve our ability to monitor and control current and changing performance of assets, and thus take even better care of our existing infrastructure, says Bjørn Laksforsmo.

Facts

The national road network that is the NPRA’s responsibility includes

  • 10,600 km of roads
  • 1,500 km of pedestrian/cycle paths
  • more than 6,000 bridge structures
  • almost 600 tunnels.
