Brim Explorer's new trimarans named Brask and Bram

"Brask and Bram mark a new chapter for Brim Explorer. For the first time, we are building two vessels at the same time, and these are vessels we have developed from the ground up for electric propulsion," says Agnes Árnadóttir, CEO and co-founder of Brim Explorer. She adds: "The names follow our tradition of vessel names beginning with B and clearly connect the new trimarans to the rest of the Brim Explorer fleet."

The names are inspired by the Norwegian expression "med brask og bram", which means to make an entrance with great fanfare – a fitting description for these two groundbreaking vessels.

100 nautical miles on battery power
The new trimarans will be able to sail 100 nautical miles (nearly 200 km) at 20 knots with 180 guests, making them the world's most efficient battery-powered vessels. The trimarans have been developed by Brim Tech, Brim Explorer's in-house technology division, following the principle of "electric by design". They build on thousands of hours of operational experience from Brim Explorer's five existing vessels.

"With Brask and Bram, we can take even more guests out to sea with zero emissions, while demonstrating that it is possible to combine high speed, long range and fully electric propulsion, which is essential for the electrification of the maritime sector," says Árnadóttir.

Built in Norway
Brask and Bram are being built by Herde Kompositt in Hardanger, Norway, and will be outfitted by Horten Skipsreparasjoner. Both vessels are designed by Einar Hareide, who also designed Brim Explorer's five existing vessels. The hulls are designed by Wind Naval Architects. Approximately 50 people in Hardanger and Horten are employed in connection with the construction project itself. In addition, a number of other Norwegian suppliers are involved in the trimaran project.
