The trend from 2023 continues in January: Growth abroad and flat development domestically
9.2.2024 14:00:00 CET | The Avinor Group | Pressemelding
3.3 million passengers traveled to and from Avinor's airports in January. That is an increase of 2 percent compared to January last year.

-The year started strong with a good development in the number of international travelers compared to the same month last year, with a growth of a whole 7 percent. The number of domestic travelers had a decrease of 1 percent. This is a continuation of the trend from last year where international traffic drove the development, while domestic traffic flattened out.
The winter weather in January has affected the domestic figures with many cancellations. Several travelers have chosen to postpone planned trips.
-We particularly see an increased interest in certain parts of the winter product that Norway can offer. We especially see an international demand for Tromsø Airport, where we experienced a passenger growth on international routes of a whole 126 percent in January compared to last year, says Vice President of Traffic Development at Avinor, Gaute Skallerud Riise. -For 2024 overall, Avinor stands by previously communicated forecasts, where we expect a domestic growth of about 1.5 percent and international growth of 5 percent, concludes Riise.
Passenger numbers 1,997,280 passengers traveled domestically in January. This number is 1 percent lower than the same month last year. With 1,220,438 international travelers in January, traffic to and from abroad increased by 7 percent compared to January 2023.
Flight movements
Avinor had 50,245 commercial flight movements in January. That is 5 percent fewer than in January 2023.
Drone flights
In January, 929 drone flights were reported in Ninox Drone, Avinor's system for drone management. -This is an increase of 50 percent compared to January 2023," says Mats Gjertsen, head of Avinor's drone program. -Even with a lot of weather and long periods of cold, these numbers indicate a trend of increasing drone flights.
