"I Need a Cigarette" is a musical therapy lesson for the heavy days in everyday life.

After an amazing reception of the previous single and collaboration with Christel Alsos, Adam Douglas just released a new single today from his upcoming album! The single is called "I Need a Cigarette" and is a musical therapy lesson. In difficult times, people tend to get relief from outside factors. So to get through what doesn't feel good or what we have no control over, some might feel like they need cigarettes. Music is one of the better options of these relieving factors. Music, which also can be used to put bad feelings into words.
Adam Douglas tells the background story of how "I Need a Cigarette" came about:
- I feel that there is so much wrong in the world these days. I keep getting more and more frustrated, angry, and tired. How do I sort of get it out of the system? As always, it's with music! I have never smoked, and will never start either... But sometimes I am quite jealous of those who stand outside with their cigarettes. It seems they know something I don't. Plus, it looks like they're getting a real break from anything that requires a break, you know? An escape from burdens big and small - even if only for a few minutes, It's a secret club (with a secret release) that I'm not a part of.
The solid, thight band consists of Ruben Dalen on drums, Marius Reksjø on bass, Marcus Løvdal on electric guitar and Thor-Erik Fjellvang on piano. It is an organic soundscape, colored by slide guitars and acoustic instruments. Playful roots and blues with delicious rhythmic layers. Douglas sings about heavy topics with his strong voice and a such charisma, it´s impossible not to feel charmed.
- This one came to me very quickly one day - and was a lot of fun to write! I had a lot on my mind, and wanted to tell everything with such a fun feeling in the song. I really like contrasts. With "Cigarette" there are some heavy themes in the lyrics, but sung with a kind of sly smile - most probably because I don't smoke, that is.
Douglas says that it was good to get the frustration out through the music, and that it is like pure therapy both to get the feelings out through making the song and to play it live. He himself says that he now dares to sing about themes more unfiltered, to a greater extent than he was able to do before. His debut as a solo artist came in 2015 with the album "I May Never Learn". However, it was not until he participated in and won Stjernekamp on NRK in 2017 that he really sang his way into the hearts of the Norwegian people. The following year he released the critically acclaimed album "The Beauty & The Brawn" and has since toured country and beach. In March 2021, he released his third full-length studio album "Better Angels".
"I Need a Cigarette" is a groovy taste of what's to come from the upcoming album in the fall, and a little therapy session for Douglas as well as for the listener!
