ACME Portable Computer – Sherlock series: the innovative all-in-one solution for IT forensics

Fact: the current capacity of hard drives is constantly growing.

Fact: data volumes are rising accordingly.

Fact: the time it takes to analyse these data volumes, as well as to backup and evaluate evidence, is also continuously increasing.

As a result of this problem, we have used “SMART” solutions to optimise our hardware and software so that EVERYONE is able to use it. Our systems are characterised not only by their simple operation, but also their high processing speeds. While copying one data medium, you can simultaneously analyse or emulate other data mediums, such as analysing or copying data from a notebook (via LAN) without needing to remove the hard drive. According to one company that has many years of experience in forensics, the test results of our solutions match those of other forensic softwares.

We presented the Sherlock series at the GPEC exhibition in September 2014 in Leipzig, Germany, and received overwhelming feedback.

The SHERLOCK Tower, a stationary backup and analysis system, is an all-in-one solution (hardware and software). You can use it to duplicate up to 4 hard drives at a time, or to analyse up to 8 hard drives at the same time.

The SHERLOCK Cube, a portable, handy, compact backup system, is also an all-in-one solution (hardware and software) with a 10” foldable display. You can use this equipment to analyse, duplicate or emulate up to 2 hard drives at the same time.

The SHERLOCK Lite, a portable backup system, is currently a pure hardware solution with a 17.3” display (1920x1080).

It goes without saying that all connections for the source disks are equipped with a write-blocker.

In practice, our systems achieve transfer rates of up to 23 GB/min (SSD), up to 10 GB/min (Sherlock Tower 4x10 GB/min) when copying SATA-III hard drives on a one-to-one basis, and up to 8 GB/min when copying images (E01, best compression) which do not change significantly when copying several data mediums.

As the software is so easy to use, it reduces the workload of professional forensic scientists so they can perform their actual tasks more efficiently. Needless to say, time and costs are also saved as further training is not needed.

There is more to come in the Sherlock series: we will be able to offer the new SHERLOCK Lite all-in-one solution (hardware and software) as of the first quarter of 2015. This product will provide an efficient, portable system for your work, with which you can duplicate/analyse/emulate up to 4 hard drives at the same time.
