Oslo Airport prepares for extraordinary traffic in connection with the funeral of King Harald V

Oslo Airport will remain open to passengers as normal on the day of the funeral, but there will be extraordinary activity in connection with the arrival and departure of guests and delegations attending the funeral. This may affect parts of the regular flight schedule in the form of possible cancellations or delays, particularly on the morning of Wednesday 9 September.

Passengers affected by any changes will receive information from their airline. Travellers flying to or from Oslo Airport on this day are encouraged to arrive well in advance, keep updated through their airline and allow extra time for travel to and from the airport. There may be reduced accessibility on the E6 motorway at times, but trains will operate as normal.

– This will be an extraordinary day for Oslo Airport and for the whole country. Our task is to facilitate a safe, dignified and smooth execution for the guests coming to Norway, while also maintaining regular operations and looking after all travellers passing through the airport on this day, says Thorgeir Landevaag, Airport Director at Oslo Airport.

Avinor is working closely with the airlines and the police on the planning. For security reasons, Avinor cannot provide details about arrivals, departures or the operational handling of the delegations.

Reminder of the drone ban around the airport
Avinor reminds the public that flying drones within five kilometres of an airport is prohibited without special permission from the local air traffic service. This also applies around Oslo Airport. Illegal drone flying near an airport poses a serious risk to aviation safety and may lead to delays, a temporary halt in air traffic and police follow-up.

– We ask everyone staying around the airport during these days to contribute to a safe and dignified execution. This means, among other things, following instructions from the police and airport personnel, keeping to marked areas and respecting the ban on drone flying in the no-fly zone around the airport, says Landevaag.

Practical information for the press
Increased media interest is expected around Oslo Airport in the days leading up to and on the day of the funeral itself. Avinor will designate areas for the press and photography in cooperation with the police. Members of the press must remain in the designated areas and follow instructions from the police, security guards and Avinor personnel on site.

The press are particularly asked to respect security zones, cordons and areas that are screened off out of consideration for guests, safety and other operations. Photography towards Norwegian Armed Forces areas is prohibited.
