International growth lifts passenger numbers above 40 million
13.10.2026 14:05:00 CEST | The Avinor Group | Press release
Nearly five million passengers travelled through Avinor airports in September, an increase of 1 per cent compared with the same month last year. International passenger numbers continue to grow, while domestic passenger numbers remain stable. So far this year, more than 40 million passengers have travelled through Avinor airports, around 2 per cent more than during the same period last year.

International travel continues to be the main driver of growth. In September, the number of international passengers increased by 3 per cent compared with the same month last year, while domestic passenger numbers remained at last year’s level. The number of aircraft movements was also in line with September last year.
Oslo Airport handled 2.6 million passengers in September, an increase of 1 per cent year on year. So far this year, passenger numbers at Norway’s largest airport are now above the level recorded during the same period in 2025, following positive development through the summer and early autumn.
Bergen Airport continues its strong development and is the main driver of growth among Norway’s largest airports. Around 661,000 passengers travelled through Bergen Airport in September, an increase of 2 per cent. So far this year, passenger numbers at Bergen Airport have increased by 6 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Tromsø Airport also continues its positive development, with passenger numbers up 3 per cent in September and 4 per cent so far this year. Trondheim and Stavanger airports recorded a slight decline in September and remain somewhat below last year’s levels so far this year.
“We continue to see international travel driving the growth. At the same time, Oslo Airport is now above last year’s level so far this year, while Bergen continues the strong development we have seen throughout much of the year. Growth at several of our largest airports provides a good indication of the demand for air travel in Norway,” says Eirik Wæraas, Director of Traffic Development at Avinor.
