Highlights from the program:

  • Mette Tronvoll: Opening in January, Norwegian photographer Mette Tronvoll presents a new series capturing the island of Hidra in Southern Norway. Known for her international reach, Tronvoll brings a fresh perspective to local landscapes, blending regional charm with global relevance.
    – This new production reflects a bold shift in Tronvoll’s approach and highlights her ability to bridge local and international appeal, says Head of Programming Karl Olav Segrov Mortensen.
  • Carl-Henning Pedersen and Else Alfelt: From April, Kunstsilo hosts a major exhibition of the renowned Danish artist couple, central figures in the Cobra movement. Premiering at Kunstsilo before embarking on a European tour, the exhibition delves into their playful, spiritual take on modern art.
    – Their works celebrate creativity and humanity, offering a powerful contrast to our conflict-driven era, Mortensen notes. The exhibition is in cooperation with the Carl-Henning Pedersen Foundation, its Chairman Mr. Finn Poulsen, and the Institute for Cultural Exchange.
  • VOX by Jónsi: Sigur Rós frontman Jón Þór Birgisson brings his acclaimed sensory installation VOX to Kunstsilo in May. Combining sound, light, scent, and vibration, the piece, which debuted in Los Angeles in 2023, offers an immersive experience centered on Jónsi's ethereal voice.
    – VOX is a rare sensory journey that promises to leave a lasting impression on visitors, Mortensen says.
  • Birger Carlstedt and Irma Salo Jæger: Finnish modernist pioneers take over the third floor in September. Carlstedt’s journey into abstraction and Jæger’s Draft for a World Flag series—a poetic exploration of unity and peace—highlight the power of Nordic nonfigurative art. The Birger Carstedt exhibit is curated by Finnish curator, Timo Valjakka, and organized in collaboration with Amos REX in Helsinki.

Bringing the Art to Life

One of this year’s most innovative projects at Kunstsilo is the digital reinterpretation of Reidar Aulie’s painting Tivoli (Funfair). Building on this audience favorite, Kunstsilo will next summer present the warm and serene landscape painting From Linadalen in Mandal by Southern Norwegian artist Amaldus Nielsen. In a room especially made for digital productions, S-Lab, this classic forest scene is transformed into an immersive experience, allowing visitors to literally step into the artwork.

– This project breathes new life into Nielsen’s painting and lets us experience the natural beauty of Southern Norway in an entirely new way, says Mortensen.
