Jamal Khashoggi’s case

Del
  • Jamal Khashoggi’s killing is as much about the harming of an individual as it is about the harming of the Kingdom. It is considered a great tragedy and a criminal act committed by members of the country’s government who acted outside their authority. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques ordered an investigation into the case that resulted in the arrest of a number of suspects. Eleven individuals who were charged by the public prosecutor are on trial.
  • The Kingdom has taken necessary measures after the incident. They include a
regulatory process of restructuring the General Intelligence Presidency, as well as relieving from their positions a number of officials named during the investigation, so that the Public Prosecutions can investigate them and record their statements.
  • The Judiciary of the Kingdom is independent, meaning no one can interfere in its actions and judgments. The Public Prosecution is committed to full transparency on the issue of Khashoggi, to the extent permitted by the judicial system.
  • The Kingdom enforced the law and began to try the accused in the presence of
representatives of five permanent members of the Security Council that was attended by representative of Turkey, in additions to those of Saudi human rights organizations. The defendants admitted during their trial that they killed Khashoggi. The Public Prosecutor requested the death penalty for five of the accused.
  • The presence of representatives from the five permanent members of the Security Council, as well as Turkey, the Human Rights Commission, the National Society for Human Rights and a representative from the Khashoggi family at the hearings of the accused indicates that the Kingdom has nothing to hide in this case.
  • It is clear that some countries and regional parties hostile to the Kingdom are trying to use this case for political gains against the Kingdom. The last thing these parties look forward to is fair justice in this case.
  • Investigators have not found Khashoggi’s body yet and search is ongoing.
Investigators have proven that there was a local Turkish collaborator who helped get rid of the body. The Public Prosecutor has asked the Turkish government, specifically the prosecutor, to provide channels: it is still waiting for any evidence. The prosecution is certain that it will discover the truth.
  • Regional countries hostile to the Kingdom have been working with some entities and organizations that classify themselves as the “protectors of human rights” to use the case of Khashoggi to target Saudi Arabia and its leadership through false allegations and by questioning the integrity and independence of Saudi judiciary.
