During today’s visit from Norway’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Cecilie Myrseth, Cyviz presented how the company has evolved from a Norwegian technology environment into a global player, while also highlighting two key challenges for continued growth: the need for stronger investment in technology and better access to the Norwegian defense industry.

The Minister was given insight into how Cyviz has, over nearly three decades, developed solutions for control rooms, operations centers, and decision-making environments with the highest requirements for security and reliability. These solutions are used today across the energy sector, critical infrastructure, public sector organizations, and international defense environments.

The company pointed to examples from customers such as Aker BP and Microsoft, as well as long-term partnerships with global players, and how standardized, scalable solutions have enabled growth across sectors and markets.

– We have succeeded globally because we build technology that works in practice, in demanding operational environments. We must also ensure that Norwegian technology is given better conditions to succeed at home, says Espen Gylvik, CEO of Cyviz.

Raising the question of Norway’s future beyond oil and gas

Cyviz also used the opportunity to raise a broader question: what will Norway rely on after oil and gas?

– Norway cannot rely on oil and gas alone in the long term. Technology must play a much clearer role in how we create future value, says Gylvik.

The company calls for stronger measures to support the international scaling of technology companies, particularly at the intersection of industry, software, and complex systems.

Delivering to NATO - faces structural barriers in Norway

Another concrete challenge relates to the defense sector. Cyviz already delivers solutions to NATO allies and international defense organizations and has made significant investments to meet the sector’s requirements. Its solutions are developed in line with NATO and EU standards and are built on a certifiable architecture, including EAL4+ and TEMPEST compliance. The company is also a JOSCAR-certified supplier to the defense and aerospace industry.

Despite this, Cyviz experiences challenges in gaining access to the Norwegian defense market.

– This is not about technology, but about structures. Today, it is difficult to evaluate new suppliers, even when solutions are already in operational use with our allies, says Gylvik.

The company calls for improved frameworks through pilot programs, more flexible framework agreements, and a clearer alignment between approval processes and procurement.

– Norwegian authorities have an opportunity to both strengthen national preparedness and help build a strong export industry – but that requires giving Norwegian technology a real pathway into the domestic market.

At a time marked by increasing geopolitical uncertainty and growing investments in defense and preparedness, Cyviz believes Norwegian technology has a significant role to play – both for value creation and national security.

– Technology is not just an industry in itself; it is a prerequisite for competitiveness and national security. Norway has strong foundations, but we need a more coordinated and ambitious approach, says Gylvik.
