Thorbjørn Jagland er gjort kjent med at Økokrim har åpnet etterforskning mot ham for mistanke om grov korrupsjon. Han tar dette på det største alvor, men vil understreke at han mener det ikke foreligger forhold som medfører straffeansvar.

Det var ventet at Europarådet ville oppheve immuniteten hans, og det gjør det mulig for Økokrim å etterforske saken. Jagland vil samarbeide med etterforskningen for å klarlegge alle forhold. Vårt fokus nå er å fremskaffe slik at faktum blir mest mulig korrekt og fullstendig før det trekkes konklusjoner. Økokrim har allerede fått oversendt dokumentasjon fra Jagland i saken, og han ser frem til å bistå Økokrim i ytterligere klarlegging av saksforholdet.

Thorbjørn Jagland has been informed that the Norwegian National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime has opened an investigation against him on suspicion of aggravated corruption. He takes this matter very seriously, but wishes to emphasize that he believes there are no circumstances that constitute criminal liability.

It was expected that the Council of Europe would lift his immunity, and this enables the Norwegian National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime to investigate the case. Jagland will cooperate with the investigation to clarify all matters. Our focus now is to provide information so that the facts are as accurate and complete as possible before any conclusions are drawn. The Norwegian National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime has already received documentation from Jagland in the case, and he looks forward to assisting them in further clarifying the circumstances.
