Indie-folk duo Konradsen and RnB/Soul artist Beharie join forces on "Efficiency"

Following an eventful 2024 highlighted by the release of the Spellemann-nominated album Michael’s Book on Bears (Norwegian Grammy), a sold-out show at Parkteatret, a support tour across Europe with Angie McMahon, two headline concerts in London as well as playing Pitchfork Paris - Konradsen returned to the studio in early 2025 with a renewed creative focus. While composing the score for the short film Storfjord 1829 (directed by Martin Bremnes), the duo simultaneously began shaping their next album alongside Norwegian producers Hans Olav Settem and Marit Othilie Thorvik.

The idea for “Efficiency” originated with Bremnes, who requested a soul-inspired song in 6/8, referencing Solveig Slettahjell’s version of Borrowed Time. That specific framework offered Konradsen a new perspective to write from, and although the song was never used in the film, it became a defining part of that creative period: a clear example of how external boundaries can open the door to expressions they might not otherwise have explored.

“Efficiency” portrays a kind of love that isn’t always immediate or all-consuming, but one that endures nonetheless - a relationship where time, patience, and a willingness to see the beauty in each other’s imperfections are essential. It speaks to a phase many people recognize: when the distance between two people can feel greater than before, yet the bond remains strong.

Producers Settem and Thorvik are also Beharie’s long-time collaborators, making it a natural step to invite the Spellemann-winning R&B/Soul artist to join the track. “We’d been listening a lot to Beharie’s new album before it was released, and it was immediately clear that he had to sing alongside Jenny,” says Eirik of Konradsen.

Beharie has been a longtime fan of Konradsen ever since they released their debut single Never Say A in 2018. “I was really happy when they asked if I wanted to come by the studio and try out some ideas on the song. I thought it was incredibly beautiful and felt immediately at home in it. It could easily have fit into my own musical universe,” he says.
