Isabella Maidment Appointed Chief Curator and Director of Collection at Henie Onstad

Isabella Maidment has been appointed as the new Chief Curator and Director of Collection at Henie Onstad Art Centre. Maidment comes from London and is an internationally recognised curator and art historian with extensive experience in the international museum sector at Tate Britain, Tate Modern, and most recently at ARoS in Denmark.

"We are delighted with this new addition to our formidable team here at Henie Onstad," says Anne Hilde Neset, Director of Henie Onstad Art Centre. "Isabella Maidment is an outstanding curator with an extensive network, deep knowledge of modernism and contemporary art, collections management, and strong leadership experience. Henie Onstad is a leading international museum serving both local and global visitors, and Isabella will be a vital addition not only to Henie Onstad, but to the Norwegian art scene as a whole".

Maidment has held several senior positions, including Chief Curator at ARoS Aarhus Art Museum in Denmark, where she was responsible for the museum's artistic direction and led the curatorial, collections, and public engagement teams. Previously, she was Head of Curatorial and Research at the same museum. She has also been Senior Curator at The Hepworth Wakefield in Yorkshire and held curatorial posts at Tate Britain and Tate Modern in London, where she curated major international exhibitions and new commissions.

Maidment holds a PhD in History of Art from University College London a Master's degree in History of Art from the University of Oxford. She is relocating to Norway and will begin her role at Henie Onstad in September.

About Henie Onstad Kunstsenter

Founded in 1968, Henie Onstad is a private foundation and art centre established by Sonja Henie and Niels Onstad at Høvikodden on the outskirts of Oslo in Norway. The building, designed by the Norwegian architects Eikvar and Engebretsen, is situated on a headland jutting into the Oslofjord, with exhibition spaces that open out towards the water like a fan. A leading arena for national and international art, it features a broad programme of interdisciplinary work through exhibitions and events that showcase modern and contemporary art. The Polish-Romani artist, activist and educator Małgorzata Mirga-Tas (b. 1978) made art history when she became the first Roma ever to represent a country at the Venice Biennale. Her monumental textile work Re-Enchanting the World received widespread acclaim in the Polish Pavilion in 2022. Now, parts of this remarkable work, alongside other textile pieces, will be featured in the exhibition Małgorzata Mirga-Tas: An Alternative Story, opening at Henie Onstad on Saturday 28 June, 2025.
