Adam Douglas sings about his "Companions" – a delightful feel-good album out today!
The album Companions celebrates and reflects on all the people in our lives who have shaped who we are. In a world marked by unrest, Douglas holds on to the important relationships and takes listeners on an uplifting journey.

Adam Douglas releases Companions today, a record that puts words to many relevant themes, set to smooth grooves in a feel-good Americana and roots landscape. The title Companions is inspired by the people we surround ourselves with in life – both those we choose and those who have been there from the start. The album is essentially about meaningful relationships, and walks us through the important people in Adam Douglas' own life. Songs like The First Time, which is about love at first sight when Douglas met his wife Kristin during a gig in Norway, and Catherine The Great, a tribute to his grandmother Reva, are among the highlights. Douglas shares:
- Most of the songs on the album are about the people we have around us in life. Some are about specific individuals in my life and how we influence each other – some are told from a distance with a political perspective shaped by the unrest in the world, and others are more intimate reflections on key people in my life.
The inspiration comes from all the people who come and go, and who leave their mark in one way or another. These are the people who made us who we are and helped shape us. This album is where Adam gives thanks, ponders, and reflects on all of his “Companions.”
Musically, the vibe is uplifting and positive. Adam continues:
- This time, I really focused on making the songs ‘feel good,’ with many tracks setting a warm and inviting mood from the very first note. I’m inspired by many different musical impulses, so it’s a varied album. I feel more grown-up now, and that’s reflected in the music. There’s quite a bit of grown-up subject matter – deep reflections on life. I’m feeling more confident in myself – as a person, as an artist, and as a musician. I’m standing strong in it, and I want to invite you and yours to join me on the journey!
The production on the upcoming record is playful and full of charm. The backing tracks were recorded live with a tight group of musicians Douglas often works with, both live and in the studio. In addition to his own guitar and vocal overdubs, the lineup includes Ruben Dalen (drums), Ruben Fredheim Oma (bass), Thor Erik Fjellvang (keys), and Aurora Amalie Heimdal (backing vocals). Drummer Ruben Dalen also served as recording engineer and co-producer and handled the mixing. Mastering was done by Morgan Nicolaysen.
Douglas made his solo debut in 2015 with the album I May Never Learn. However, it wasn’t until he competed in and won Stjernekamp on NRK in 2017 that he truly sang his way into the hearts of the Norwegian public. The following year, he released the critically acclaimed album The Beauty & The Brawn and has since toured extensively. In March 2021, he released the studio album Better Angels, and last fall he followed up with his fourth album, Dancing for the Moon – a diverse and widely praised record, showcasing Douglas' unique ability as an artist to write and deliver songs with genuine emotion and impact.
The "Companions" release concert will be held at SALT in Oslo on Saturday, May 24.
