The company attributes this success to the hands-on experience its internships provide and KONGSBERG’s reputation for cutting-edge technology.

“It is great to see such strong interest in our summer internship program, with 2,800 applications this year—a 44% increase from last year. Today’s students are looking for more than just a regular internship-experience; they want to be part of something meaningful. By applying to KONGSBERG, they show a interest in engaging with a company whose purpose is to protect people and the planet in a world facing major challenges in climate, security, and geopolitics. We look forward to welcoming this year’s interns and supporting their development for the future,” says Geir Håøy, President and CEO of KONGSBERG
KONGSBERG’s internship program has never seen this level of interest before.

Highlights from the 2025 application cycle include:

  • Total applications (2025): 2,800 – the highest ever for KONGSBERG’s internship program.
  • Year-on-year increase: 44% more applications than the previous year.
  • Employer appeal: Reinforces KONGSBERG’s position as an attractive place for young talent to start their careers.

Olympic Internship
This summer, KONGSBERG is offering seven internship positions, including a new project in partnership with Olympiatoppen , which is part of the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports (NIF). The project, Summit2028 – Creating Results for Sailing, aims to support Norway’s goal of winning medals at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics by developing new technology.

Summit2028 continues the collaboration from the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, where KONGSBERG and other industry partners contributed funding and technical solutions for 10 different sports. The student program, Summit2028 – Creating Results for Sailing, focuses on technology research to support competitive sailing. Designed for students interested in sports technology and data science, the program uses data to improve decision-making in sailing. Students will be based at KONGSBERG’s offices, working closely with Olympiatoppen and alongside other interns from different internship projects.

KONGSBERG management has expressed pride and excitement at the response to this year’s internship program. “We are thrilled to see such strong interest in our summer internship program,” says Anne Gro Kjørstad, HR Manager at KONGSBERG. “This record response confirms that our approach of offering challenging, meaningful projects is resonating with the next generation of talent.” KONGSBERG also thanked all applicants for their interest, noting that the enthusiasm is highly encouraging for the future of the program.

Commitment to developing future talent
During the internship, students work closely with experienced employees on real-world projects across all business areas. They tackle challenging tasks while gaining valuable experience that reflects the breadth of KONGSBERG’s technological reach, including maritime technology, defence and aerospace systems, and renewable energy solutions.

With the application period now closed, focus shifts to selecting the 2025 group of interns. We are currently reviewing candidates for this year’s projects. Last summer (2024), 151 students joined internship positions across the company.

"We are very pleased with the record number of applications we have received. It shows that students value the opportunities we offer and are eager to join KONGSBERG. Our paid internship program is designed to give students practical experience and insight into our business while working alongside experienced colleagues," says Kjørstad.

Interns also build professional networks and receive mentorship, enhancing their readiness and development for a career in technology. Nurturing young talent through initiatives like the summer internship program is a strategic priority for KONGSBERG. The company sees the program as a win-win: students gain valuable experience and knowledge, while the organization benefits from fresh perspectives and new ideas. This year’s record application numbers are a clear validation of that approach.

KONGSBERG looks forward to welcoming the new interns this summer and continuing its tradition of fostering emerging talent.
