Discover the magic of a Norwegian getaway in ‘People of the North’
Havila Voyages partners with new prime time show.

Norwegian coastal cruise line Havila Voyages is taking centre stage in a new tv series that premieres on PBS this month.
‘People of the North’ follows a breath-taking journey to the heart of the Arctic, and explores Northern Scandinavia’s most picturesque destination, where culture, nature and adventure collide.
In the series, the show’s presenters are seen exploring the region on one of the company’s new hybrid coastal ships, which travel along the coast from Bergen in the south to Kirkenes in the far north.
As well as appearing in the programme, Havila Voyages are also sponsoring the series which has been very widely picked up by the PBS stations, leading to coverage of over 85% of the US.
Matthew Valentine, Head of Sales US at Havila Voyages sees the programme as a great opportunity to launch the business in North America.
He comments “The Norwegian coastal route is marking its 130th anniversary this year. What better way to celebrate than with a programme that explores the rich culture and unparalleled beauty of this fascinating region. Every nautical mile along the route from Bergen to Kirkenes, is filled with new experiences, sailing through narrow fjords and open seas, past sheer cliffs, through four UNESCO Heritage sites and across the Arctic circle twice. With prime-time TV slots across the country, we are expecting the programme to drive strong demand for Norway, and for our cruises.”
The new cruise line’s environmentally responsible ships play a vital role in connecting the communities along the coast of the far north, providing transport links, bringing visitors, and boosting the local economy.
Each of the new ships feature the World’s largest battery packs on a passenger vessel meaning they can sail through the world heritage fjords for up to four hours at a time – quietly, emission fee and using only battery power.
During their journey along the coast, guests’ tastebuds are tantalised with locally sourced and freshly prepared dishes such as the golden cloudberries that only grow in the high north and famous king crab.
The series comprises of ten half hour episodes and is presented by Norwegian television personality Arne Hjeltnes, Swedish chef Frida Ronge, and Norwegian Stig Bareksten, an award-winning distiller.

About Havila Voyages
Havila Voyages is a Norwegian shipping company that sails the classic coastal voyage between Bergen and Kirkenes with the Norwegian coast's most environmentally friendly ships.
The four new ships are loaded with one the world's largest battery pack ever installed on passenger ships and can sail for up to four hours without noise or emissions through vulnerable areas. The batteries are charged with clean hydropower at shore, and when the batteries are low we switch to natural gas which cuts CO2 by around 35 %.
The hull is specially designed for maximum energy efficiency, and excess heat from cooling water and sea used for heating on board. On the menu are locally made dishes from local producers, and all unnecessary plastic is avoided. We are already exceeding the authorities' requirements for cutting emission, and we have set sail with zero emissions as the future target.
Havila Voyages is part of the Havila Group that dates back to the 1950s. It all started when the founder, Per Sævik, bought his first fishing boat in his teens. From fishing and herring fishing, Havila is now a group operating in shipping technology, offshore, transport and tourism.
