New route between Bergen and Zurich with the innovative Bombardier CS100 jet

For the first time ever, Bergen, Norway’s second-biggest city, economic center, gateway to the Fjords and major European ocean cruise turnaround port, now offers consumers a direct air service between these two great cities.
SWISS, part of the Lufthansa Group and Star Alliance carrier, commenced their weekly flights (Saturday) between Bergen (BGO) and Zurich (ZRH) on 3rd June 2017. The 1,442-kilometre sector will see the brand new state of the art CS100’s operating on the route. A second weekly frequency (Wednesday) will be added from the 5th July. SWISS is the only airline to operate between these two airports.
Of special note is the Bombardier CS100. This is the first newly designed aircraft of its kind in decades and SWISS is its launch customer and first operator. Customers on the Bergen-Zurich route will fly on an aircraft that is a class act in every respect including comfort, economics and environmental performance. The cabin with a 2-3 seat cabin configuration and 125 seats offers a great sense of spaciousness on board. The big windows make for an appealingly bright cabin. The innovative seat set up offers more legroom for the same seat pitch and ushers in a new era of air travel in the short haul European market. In addition, the C Series sets new benchmarks in terms of engine technology, aerodynamics and construction materials, offering 20% lower carbon dioxide emissions per 100 passenger-kilometres, in addition to being much quieter than comparable aircraft types.
Leo Tonidandel General Manager Sales Norway, Lufthansa Group, said:
“SWISS is delighted to be connecting our Zurich hub with Bergen on a route that will offer travelers the experience of flying on the fantastic brand new state of the art and innovative Bombardier CS100 aircraft. We see Bergen as a market that offers a strong mix of business and leisure travel and I look forward to working with Bergen’s travel management community and tourism stakeholders to help make this route a sustainable and growing success story.”
Bergen Airport’s Managing Director Aslak Sverdrup said:
“Bergen and the fjord region is very pleased to welcome SWISS into our community. We have had to wait a few years to have the Lufthansa Group back in Bergen and I know that our business travelers will be delighted to have another option to connect to Zurich, a major financial center. In addition, with this convenient timetable, they are offered a solution to connect into the Zurich hub and take advantage of the comprehensive SWISS network that serves important destinations for Bergen such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Johannesburg and São Paulo.
The people of Bergen love to travel and I am sure Zurich will prove to be a big leisure travel hit this summer. This new route to Zurich will also benefit from the growing demand consumers have to visit the Norwegian Fjords. There has been a strong growth in this market over the last years.”
