Norwegian Minister Astrup impressed with blockchain driven beach cleaning

The clean-up was held at Girgaon Chowpatty Beach in Mumbai, India. This was just days after the Maharashta Government imposed a ban on single use plastic.

The great effort of about 35 volunteers resulted in a total of 2500 kg garbage collected of the beach, where 650 kg was plastic waste. The Norwegian Minister for International Development, Nikolai Astrup, visited the beach and applauded the efforts of the organizations and volunteers involved in the clean-up.

The clean-up was done together with Bija Organization from Norway and Indian NGO Sunflower Welfare Foundation. Empower are very pleased with the success and cost-efficiency of the beach clean-up and have several international pilots planned for the near future.
