Tekna Holding commissions additional plasma atomizer for titanium and approves multi-million-dollar capacity increase to deliver on accelerating growth.
(Arendal, NORWAY / Sherbrooke QC, CANADA - 21 April 2021) Tekna Holding AS (Tekna, OSE:TEKNA), the world-leading provider of advanced materials to industry, has commissioned a state-of-the-art powder atomizer for titanium to meet growing demand from the aerospace, medical, and automotive industries. The new powder atomizer commissioned for titanium comes with highly automated real-time process controls which translates into low labour operating cost.
In line with the company’s growth strategy, Tekna’s Board of Directors today approved the manufacturing of six new production systems for the Additive Manufacturing, Printed Electronics and Energy Storage segments. This investment will bring the company’s total number of plasma systems to 14.
“Tekna posted solid revenue growth in 2020, mainly driven by new customers and increased powder sales, a trend which is accelerating. We’re seeing growing demand from the aerospace, medical, and automotive industries. Our goal is to always meet the delivery expectations of our customers. The investment we are announcing today, along with our newly commissioned state-of-the-art powder atomizer, will ensure that we stay ahead of the demand curve. Tekna’s plasma systems enable us to produce materials with superior performance characteristics to support our customers’ development, enhance their competitiveness and reduce their environmental footprint,” said Luc Dionne, Chief Executive Officer Tekna Canada.
Tekna established its subsidiary Tekna Advanced Materials (TAM) in 2014 for the industrial production of titanium and other powders for 3D printing. Since then, the company has focused on optimizing production and the end product. Today TAM is a qualified supplier to a wide range of leading producers in the medical, aerospace, defence and automotive sectors. Tekna notably became the first worldwide supplier qualified by Boeing for additive manufacturing powders in 2020 - Boeing Material Specification (BMS) Titanium alloy powders and BMS Aluminum alloy powders. With a rapidly rising customer base and share of repeat deliveries, Tekna is making ongoing plans to expand capacity in order to meet the growing demand.
